Update #2

Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing great! This past month I decided to revamp the gun gameplay of MidKnight Story by bringing it from prototype to production-ready, as well as improved sound effects and particle effects for footsteps.

New Steampunk Revolver!

Firstly, I redesigned Paran's handgun from scratch, and I decided to change its style from a flintlock to a steampunk revolver handgun with the cylinder positioned on its side.

Here's a 3D rendering of the new handgun along with a standard cylinder and bullets:

...and here's the in-game 3D model in action!

Improved Gun Mechanic and Handling!

Before getting into the details of what has changed in the gun shooting mechanics, here's an overall showcase of the new system, along with a brand new track composed by the talented Matthew Harnage:

From the animations to the sound effects, everything has been recreated from scratch.

  • This time around, projectiles have their own 3D models (instead of a simple particle effect) and follow a realistic trajectory. When they collide, they also deform and fall to the ground in a realistic manner. Also, as in the previous version, every time a bullet hits a target it will generate a specific particle effect, decal, and sound effect according to the material of the object that has been hit.

  • Every time a bullet is fired, its respective shell falls out of the cylinder and falls to the ground.

  • Now, each strafing animation features an appropriate stop animation, no matter the strafing direction, making the overall system feel smooth.

  • Rotating while aiming has also been improved and feels smoother now, too.

  • When aiming and rotating in place, Paran now takes actual steps to rotate his body.

  • An additional "detection to avoid" system has been added to avoid Paran's arm and gun going through various objects that are in front of him.

    New Bag and Improved Loot!

Paran's bag has also been redesigned. Its new look is in line with his main outfit, and it is also fully animated, meaning that the bag will open and close every time Paran takes something from it or whenever he collects gear, old parts, and treasures.

The gears (one of the forms of currency adopted in the Numian Land) also got a revamp, featuring more variations, improved textures, and animations.

That's it for this update!

P.S. I have a very exciting announcement to make which will be made public in the next update, so stay tuned my friends!
